It's just a matter of familiarity for me. Even though I've never been to a Western ball before, the similarities in structure are enough to help me get by. It helps that there are plenty of friends around to speak with, as well, so I don't have to be as nervous as I would if I were meeting a room full of strangers...

To be honest, I have difficulty picturing you dressing like that more often, even if it suits you well. Being in a situation like this... It's not as though you seem out of place, but I can understand the preference for events with less fanfare. I wouldn't mind seeing what a smaller Christmas celebration looks like, myself.
